about

’Sad Eyes’ is a stand-alone offering about family, showcasing the depth of The Shop Window’s material just in time for Christmas. Whilst the band’s first official vinyl 7” single on independent record label ‘Spinout Nuggets’ is going through the production process for a New Year release, this track will not be on the forthcoming album ‘The State Of Being Human’ due out in the spring. It’s an opportunity to grab another of their great tracks while records are being pressed!

“‘Sad Eyes was written after a visit to see my Grandmother. She is a massive part of my life and is now 104 years old. She has always been there to save and guide me from before my own memories even began. The afternoon visit had such an impact that day that as soon as I started to drive home I knew I wanted to write down the last two hours I had just spent with her. Naturally I reached for a guitar as soon as I got home and this song happened without even thinking, it just poured out! I can’t even recall having worked on it so to speak!” - Carl Mann (Composer)

lyrics

I see you sitting in your chair
Waiting there, watching time
All you have now is the past
The future has gone beyond your grasp
I showed you photos of your great grandson
How he’s grown, how he smiles
Reminds you of when I was young
For a moment time stood still

Sad eyes sparkle
Your tired mind looked like it woke for a moment
Sad eyes sparkle
So long waiting for peace now my love

Conversation stumbles along
You look at me with a blank glare
In the meantime the football is on
Reminds me of times we’ve shared
I hope you’re not suffering
Occasionally I see your flare
We shared ice cream and a couple of goals
For a moment time stood still

Sad eyes sparkle
Your tired mind looked like it woke for a moment
Sad eyes sparkle
So long waiting for peace now my love
